1000Base-T

An IEEE standard (802.3ab, 1999) similar in concept to the predecessor 10/100Base-T, 1000Base-T translates to 1000 Mbps (theoretical transmission rate) Baseband (one transmission at a time over a single, shared channel), over Twisted pair media.The original specifications called for Cat 5 cable to support Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) over four pairs and distances up to 100 meters. Cat 6 cabling specifications include unshielded twisted pair (UTP), shielded twisted pair (STP), and screened twisted pair (ScTP) rated at 250 MHz over distances up to 220 meters.
